It is the first all cg film to go where most producers and artist just simply will not go. Hyper realistic character and futuristic tech design.

This genre of film obviously lacks the return profit that goofy dancing cg animals or cartoony characters do as it isolates only a small population of viewer, probably a techy male from ages 12 on up.

Spirits within has been criticized for its "weak" story line and the ever so popular and overly used term "uncanny valley syndrome" but I think everyone will agree that the only thing uncanny is the technical achievement by Square and all of the artists involved on the project.

Final Fantasy: The spirits within has been airing lately in High definition on HD.net and is still my favorite all cg movie to date. Kudos to Square for taking a chance and pushing the medium beyond anything we've ever seen.

It's difficult to find a whole lot of information on artists who have worked on the film and even the bonus disc doesn't disclose a whole lot of information on the subject. Though there is a commentary version on the bonus DVD, it's geared more towards the creation of the cg characters as opposed to the technical elements of the film.

There is a making of Final fantasy: The spirits within book.
Stay tuned for number nine of the most influential concept ship design in film countdown here on conceptships.blogspot.

A little dose of reality today...

Most self-respecting starships in science fiction stories use antimatter as fuel for a good reason – it’s the most potent fuel known. While tons of chemical fuel are needed to propel a human mission to Mars, just tens of milligrams of antimatter will do (a milligram is about one-thousandth the weight of a piece of the original M&M candy).

However, in reality this power comes with a price. Some antimatter reactions produce blasts of high energy gamma rays. Gamma rays are like X-rays on steroids. They penetrate matter and break apart molecules in cells, so they are not healthy to be around. High-energy gamma rays can also make the engines radioactive by fragmenting atoms of the engine material. Read the rest of the article RIGHT HERE!

Insane amount of concept ships on strangelet's Deviant art pages... Check 'em. Actually most all the them are renders. Not concepts. The models have been put together by different people not just stranj. Yet Stranj touched every ship at some point in its creation. Check out Angels Fall First Universe... Our teams site.

This is one of my first attempts to draft a concept spaceship design with CorelDRAW. It was made around the end of 2004. I've always liked the long tube at the front of the ship to balance out the design but never thought of any other use besides maybe a gun, light or receiver of some kind and wondered what kind of effect it would have on a high speed traveling vessel.

I recently came across this nasa photograph of a F-15B testbed aircraft with a Gulfstream Quiet Spike sonic boom mitigator attached.

Insane!
